Remember Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 If I Restore from a backup am I going to lose the new product I have downloaded since then? What about the orders? Thanks for any help?
Iggy Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Yep. Your backup is only as current as the last time you backed up. Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
Brandon8583 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 If I Restore from a backup am I going to lose the new product I have downloaded since then? What about the orders? Thanks for any help? Remember- Sorry to hear that you have to go about a restore... it really depends on what you have changed since your last backup. If you have added 1,000 items since that backup, and have had 200 orders, well... you will probably end up typing everything back into OSC... and your order totals will most likely be lost. 1.) If you are going to be restoring your database information (Orders, Customers, Products, etc...), you will lose anything that has been added, changed, deleted... since your last backup date. 2.) If you are doing a whole OsCommerce restore (EVERYTHING), any modifications or changes that you have made to the system will be lost. If you still can, go back to the Admin Backend, to "Tools" then "Backup." This will backup everything in the database that you need (orders, customers, tables, data, ...), and will create a SQL file that you can use to reload everything pretty quickly... For the OsCommerce files, the only real way to "Back them Up" is by copying them yourself, or getting a hosting company who does "Whole Site" and "Database" Backups. You might want to start backing your OsCommerce cart up at least once a week... It will save you A LOT of time if you ever should have to do a restore.
Guest Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 i always back up right before i install a new contribution - and i make sure nobody else is adding any products while i'm installing. that way i don't lose anything! the only risk you take: if it's a live site and somebody is shopping or just signing up, you may interfere with their visit.

THanks for all of the info. I have probably addes about 20 products since my last admin backup, so installing those would not be too big of a deal, but I will need to make sure I copy all of the info from my orders before I back up. Thanks for the help!!
bobg7 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 If your database is still intact, when you reinstall, do not import the stock database or it will dump your good database. This will preserve anything that has transpired since the last backup but you may need to re-add the products so they will display properly and re-upload your product images. Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going.
ugtar Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I wrote a little script that runs from a cron and backs up my database every hour for the last five hours and every night for the last 3 nights. It's pretty braindead but I can post it if anyone's interested. You need to be able to create a crontab on your host for it to work.
ya_dood Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 For a "Complete" Backup is this all i have to do? 1. backup/download my database through tools in admin 2. download every file on the server by FTP Then if i ever lose the site or need to restore it manually upload the files by FTP + restore database? Thanks
