chundle Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 hi all i'm having a problem with oscommerce that tax is not showing for my products. i'll add a product, fill in, say ?25 for price, which it then back-calculates at ?21.78 (or whatever) net. then when i view the product in the shop it only shows price as ?21.78, all the way through check-out, even up to payment... never adds tax. yes, i have got a tax zone, UK for 17.5% yes, i have enabled enabled "display prices with taxes" = true in the admin/configuration/mystore yes, i have tried adding define('DISPLAY_PRICE_WITH_TAX', 'true'); to application_top.php yes, i have got admin/modules/order total/tax, display tax = true and sort order = 3 i have also tried adding SPCC (separate price per customer) contribution where you can manually check that individual customer groups show (or don't show) taxes. still tax never gets added (or displayed) at any stage. any thoughts anyone on what i might have missed? or if there is some php to edit i can do that too without too much trepidation, but where do i look...? thank you!
titbread Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I've got a similar problem, my vat is incorrectly calculated! Please can someone respond to this that knows?
Gemini05 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hello, I don't have a lot of PHP/osCommerce knowledge, but when I set up my oscommerce store I had a lot of stumbling blocks when setting up the tax to show properly. Note that I'm in Canada, so I may have had to set things up differently than what you need to do. I have "Display prices with tax" set to FALSE, as our tax is added at the end of the purchase - this appears during the checkout. Tax decimal places set to "2". In Locations/Taxes>Tax Zones I have 3 tax zones: Canada GST Zones (with the 10 provinces that pay 7% GST) Canada HST Zones (with the 3 provinces that pay 15% GST) International (Including USA) - for orders shipped outside of Canada where 0% tax is charged In Locations/Taxes>Tax Classes I have 2 classifications: GST on Shipping GST/HST In Locations/Taxes>Tax Rates I have 4 rates: GST/HST - set to Tax Class Zone:GST/HST, Zone:Canada GST Zones, Tax Rate:7%, Description:GST GST/HST - same as above, but Zone: Canada HST Zones, Tax Rate:15% GST Shipping - same as #1, but select "GST shipping" instead of "GST/HST" GST Shipping - same as #2, but select "GST shipping" As I don't know all of the in's & out's of VAT tax, you may need to set your site slightly differently, but hopefully this will help you figure things out (it took me several days & a lot of searching to get mine set properly). Also, when entering items in your store be sure to select the tax class otherwise tax won't be added. Paige
leonthelion Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hi Paige, Thanks for your detailed information. I'm in WA, USA, and am trying to set an 8.5% tax rate which is calculated on the total order cost (product + shipping) only for customers from the state of Washington. What would be your advice for this? Do I need to add product tax and shipping tax. I'm not sure how to add tax to the shipping amounts... or is there a way to apply a flat rate tax to the total price on any orders from WA. Any advice you can share would be greatly appreciated. Leon http://www.leonthelion.com
joeyjgarcia Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I would like the same information too. Is shipping taxable? Thanks. Joey
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 ok...here's my progress, but not working correctly yet... in Tax Zones I have Zone name: WA ; Description: Washington in Tax Classes I have Tax Class Title: Washington Sales Tax ; Description: These items are taxable in Tax Rates I have Tax Class Title: Washington Sales Tax (from drop-down menu) ; Zone: WA (from drop-down menu) ; Tax Rate (%): 8.5000 ; Description: Washington Sales Tax ; Priority: 0 I added the tax class Washington Sales Tax from the drop-down menu for each of my products. I also added the tax class to my shipping method (Table Rate, scaling by price) I get the following when on my order: 1 x Super Saver Gift Set - Central Baja East $39.99 Sub-Total: $39.99 Table Rate (Best Way): $4.99 Washington Sales Tax: $3.82 Total: $48.80 This is perfect for Washington orders. It has the sub-total of the Net product price. Then the table rate, in this case $4.99 I had set for orders more than $20 and less than $50. Then the Washington Sales Tax correctly calculates 8.5% of the Sub-Total and the Shipping. My Total figure is therefore correct. But,... I tried putting an order through outside of Washington and it incorrectly added the Washington Sales Tax. Any advice on what I may be doing wrong? Paige seems to have this working correctly with different zones and taxes. My thought to try next is to add zones/taxes of 0% to catch all other orders besides Washington.
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Success! This works for a store just wanting to have sales tax for orders shipped in Washington, but can be expanded to have specific taxes for any other zones you may require. Basically, I re-read Paige's advice and realised my mistake. I didn't click on the folder icon in Tax Zones and put the locations I wanted to tax in there. Also, to appease our account and have both the sales tax and shipping tax appear as one total on the invoice/orders, I chose the same tax class for both my products and shipping. I can do this because it is the same 8.5% rate on shipping and sales tax here now. But, those two rates change in the future, I will have to choose seperate sales and shipping rates and they will be listed seperately on the invoices... I was a total newbie when I started this process, but it took me most of my day to get it figured, so I'll try and share as much of what I learned with others. PS> I used to work in the Australian Taxation Office, but that didn't help me at all :P
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Leon, Then perhaps you can help me. I need to remove the default Florida tax. I have already followed what Paige wrote and setup all the different zones. However, now my tax is 22% instead of the 15% that I want. Can you help out this newbie?? Pete
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Pete, Under Tax Zones, if you select the folder you want to delete and choose delete or click on the folder icon to go a level deeper and delete the items inside, that will remove the Tax Zone name... but It sounds as if you are getting both the 15% plus the FL 7% together. Can you give me a list of what is in each of your Taxes menus, also what you have selected on your products and shipping methods in the Tax Class menu. I think it will be easy to correct then. Leon
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Leon, I will get yuo that information but what I did is that I basically did what Paige recommended in her previous post.
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I just deleted all of my tax zones..... Please tell me how to remove the FL 7%
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 ok, if you have like paige's setup, you will have a Tax Class with the 7% tax rate in it. Have a look in there, and find the one with the 7%, then backtrack from there. if you can provide that list of what info you have where and especially what you have selected for the product items you are trying to attach these taxees too...
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 This is what I have under my taxes Tax Zones: Canada (with 12 provinces) Tax Class GST Only Tax Rate 7% Ontario Tax Class GST/PST Tax Rate 15% International All Countries all zones Tax Class GST Shipping tax rate 7% When I got to my product and I select GST/PST and the price is $1.00 (net) $1.15 automatically goes into gross. However, now when I preview the product the price is $1.10. It stays that way even after I update the product. Does this help??
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 This is exactly what I have: osCommerce Tax Problems That gives me 8.5% on any Washington State orders and doesn't apply tax to other locations. This can be modified easily to include more tax zones. Let me know how you go
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Leon, That is what I have but once I preview the page it goes from 1.00 plus the canadian tax of 15% making it $1.15 to $1.10 That is what is confusing me
leonthelion Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 can you turn off the Display Prices with Tax option in the My Store configuration page? Leon, That is what I have but once I preview the page it goes from 1.00 plus the canadian tax of 15% making it $1.15 to $1.10 That is what is confusing me
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 can you turn off the Display Prices with Tax option in the My Store configuration page? I have "tax decimal places set to 2" Display prices with tax set to false
habsr1 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I got it. My default currency was set to $1.10 instead $1.00. Thanks for all your help.
leonthelion Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Great! I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. I'm still just getting my head around osCommerce, but I love the community of support there is for this program and hope I can share the little I have learned with people as I go. Leon
habsr1 Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Leon, You and Paige were all the help that I needed. I too am learning this osCommerce. Now I'm trying to figure out the best way to calculate shipping. Once I have that figured out, I'm open for business. Thanks again for all your help
leonthelion Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Just in case anyone is still looking for help on this topic and thinks about paying for Miva instead..... Miva sucks! I started a Miva store on my Aplus account because it was "free", turns out they only gave me one license which sucks for my other domains hosted with them. So I installed osCommerce and had them both running on different sites. After sorting out this tax problem with osCommerce I looked at how to set it up on Miva. Turns out I need to buy an add-in module to do the same thing with Miva. This is Miva which costs like several hundred dollars just to get the base system installed! I don't want to maintain two different e-comms systems and osCommerce seems to whip Miva's butt in terms of functionality and support, not to mention the cost

I need to charge pst and gst on my goods, and I also need to set it up so I only charge Gst on books and services.. and forgive me if I sound silly but If someone from another province purchases an item then they are only charged gst? am I right.. is that how the tax zones work? I have someone setting this all up for me.. but he is very busy and hasn't been able to correct any thing for me as of yet.. so I thought I would try and help out to get things up and running faster.. I can get into the back end of the site, but I am very limited with my knowledge..any help you can give me would be appreciated thank you.. Peace..
ampdeck Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 leonthelion> I registered an account just to thank you for your screenshots tutorial, it helped tremendously! I am sure I will be using my new account though, as the next task is to figure out why the USP shipping module from the osCommerce Downloads doesn't seem to work after I installed it. I'll probably be adding a post about that.. Anyway, your tutorial helped out a lot!
ampdeck Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Oops, I noticed a problem. I have the State Tax calculated BEFORE shipping cost, and it needs to go after. In "Locations/Taxes - Tax Rates" I did set the priority of State Tax to 0. Can anyone help me with what I may be doing wrong?

You probably have this figured out by now but you go to the following link and set it up like this.Go to this path in your admin Module Directory: catalog/includes/modules/order_total/ set in this order Shipping 2 Sub-Total 1 Tax 3 Total 4
