Guest Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Hey all. I've tried a search on the string: "Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client" but the search feature on the site does not allow me to search for it. Smaller searches result with no good results. So I'm trying to install osCommerce. I'm on a webserver hosted by a company (or in other words, not hosted on my computer). I enter: Database Server: localhost Username: (the username I use to login via ftp) Password: (the password I use when logging in via ftp) Database: osCommerce Unchecked Persistant Connections Session Storage: database After continuing, I get the above error: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client I checked cPanel: MySQL version: 4.1.13-standard PHP version: 4.3.9 Is this a problem I can fix myself? I doubt I can upgrade mysql or php since I don't have access to those types of things. I successfully installed the mysql databases by using phpmyadmin and browsing for the .sql install, but even when manually installing like that, when I try to access /catalog it gives me the same error. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Your MySQL database username and password are not the same as your FTP upload username and password unless you phsyically set them the same. You will need to access your CP under your account with your hosting company and go to the database section of your CP. Check the database...see if one is even created. If not, then create one and edit the information above to correspond to that new database, user name and password. Hope this help you.

Yeah, I've actually done that already through the mysql management. With the manual procedure, I set up osCommerce and had to create a new user that had all rights enabled. Even when I use this new user and password, i get the same error. *cries*
Guest Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 This is an issue to discuss with your webhost (server configuration) Matti
