Googlel Adwords - Testing 2 at a time

Ok, maybe everyone knows this, but I didn't, and it's been very helpful. So I thought I would share. If you are running a Google Adwords campaign, you can test more than one ad at a time to see which one does better.

When you set up your first ad BEFORE you start adding keywords, you can hit the "Ad Text" hyperlink above the keyword box. This will let you create a second ad for the exact same set of keywords. Google will alternate them and you can see which one does better. Eventually, you delete the one that isn't doing as well.

Also under your Campaign settings, there is a check box that says: "Automatically optimize ad serving for my ads". It defaults to checked. If it is checked, Google will determine which ad it thinks is doing better or is more relevant and will start favoring that ad by showing it more often than the other. If you uncheck this box, it will show them roughly equally regardless of how well they do. This option lets you do a fairer comparison, but could result in a slightly lower click-through rate overall during your test period.

Hope this helps someone,

Adrienne
