timinark Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Hello Everybody, My site is live ( about three months) and we are using Google Adwords and local marketing to drive traffic which is averaging approx 200 visitors a day and we have made some sales, but not nearly what we would like. Now granted we are using a fairly stock looking OSC site, what else should I be doing to get my conversion rate to improve. Do I need more traffic? Is my site so ugly as to immediately make users turn tail ( I don't think so, because I check my logs. ) I could really use some opinions and criticism. Thanks Tim
♥peterpil19 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Hi, your site looks great! My only criticism is that it is not immediately obvious when looking at your site what services you provide. You have to read the WHOLE text before realising that you are about custom-design tops. Perhaps add a motto or something in the header about what you do. --Peter CE PHOENIX SUPPORTER Support the Project, go PRO and get access to certified add ons Full-time I am a C-suite executive of a large retail company in Australia. FalseDawn Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Better targetted marketing will result in fewer visitors but higher conversion rates. Also agree with comment about making it more immediately obvious what your site is about - otherwise you could be perceived as just a clothes store. The $45 "Set up" fee may well be a neccessary charge, but it seems a bit high and may well be putting people off? I would try to play this down or maybe increase the price of your items and have a minimum order quantity to offset this. Good luck.
FalseDawn Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 You also have a pop-up warning on your secure pages - looks to be caused by your credit card logo. This is not confidence inspiring. Also, why bury the recent press release link in your "About us" - I'd move it to the front page - make it more prominent. If you have a retail store, a picture of this will add great credibility - again, either in your about us or home page. Also, your right column is moving - when I click on a link from the home page, it moves to the left.
Tomcat Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Hi, Personally I woul get rid of the "xxx requests since......" it's not necessary indeed and slows down the whole thing a bit. Have you thought about changing buttons ? the stock OSc buttons are not very appealing. I would also change the top banner and make it a bit more interesting ( home made is good for many things but banners ) :D Cheers Franco Outside links in signatures are not allowed!

I thought that same thing and brought my digital camera. I was waiting for a day when the place was halfway straight to snap a few pics :( . The press release is something I just started playing with ( from another post in these forums). That was my first attmpt at writing one, so I am not particularly proud of it. I do plan to do some on a more or less regular basis and thought I would plant them there. The moving column_right I am not quite understanding. My entire focus was on credibility and usability, that why I stuck with the straight OSC look, which has always struck me as solid. As I improve my knowledge of OSC, the site will evolve...hopefully. Thanks for the analysis!! Tim Hi, Personally I woul get rid of the "xxx requests since......" it's not necessary indeed and slows down the whole thing a bit. Does the counter slow down the page load? The banner at the top...acknowledged. Trying to put a little info up there. I actually have a couple animated ones that someone did before me. I think they are annoying, but they must work, because I keep seeing them. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Tim
timinark Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 You also have a pop-up warning on your secure pages - looks to be caused by your credit card logo. This is not confidence inspiring. In checking into this the warning I got was that it was a syntax error on line 60 on checkout_payment.php. This file is stock standard with no mods. Regrettably I have not a clue what could be the problem Any Ideas? Tim
FalseDawn Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Look in your footer.php, your page source code shows this: img src="http://just1shirt.com/images/cc2.jpg Have you hard-coded this path? If so, you need to change it to use the tep_image() function.
cbcnz Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 couple of things, try centering the content when so you have white space on both sides. your pr link in about us no longer works
timinark Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 couple of things, try centering the content when so you have white space on both sides. Thanks for checking me out. I agree with the centered I have fixed the width of most elements, just need to figure how to center. It may be just me, but you beat on it and beat on it...and then you just want to take a breather. your pr link in about us no longer works I didn't have a problem. It links back to prweb.com. Perhaps thay had a problem. Thanks again for checking the site, you were very helpful Tim
