Sherrynne Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Hi, I am trying to install the program and get through the first part with no problems at all but I can't get past this point. New Installation osCommerce Configuration The following error has occurred: The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set. Please perform the following actions: cd /home/(username)/public_html/oscommerce-2.2ms2/catalog/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php cd /home/(username)/public_html/oscommerce-2.2ms2/catalog/admin/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php I realise this is probably something quite simple but I am working with a new system and language that I am not familiar with. I have tried at least half a dozen times and come up with the same thing. I am using a mysql data base install. I think I am supposed to change the details in the named file but it doesn't exist. What am I doing wrong? It is probably something quite simple and I may seem like a simpleton but I am ready to pull my hair out here. I have gone through the install guide and checked through posts on the forum but couldn't find the answer. Thanks for any help. Sherrynne

I am not that savvy in terms of these things, actually I am not at all savvy and trying to learn on the run. I realise that I may have bitten off more than I can chew at the moment but really want to get the hang of it all. Thanks again, Sherrynne
dahui Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 actually I am not at all savvy and trying to learn on the run. I realise that I may have bitten off more than I can chew at the moment mostly all of us where initially and now we are addicted to chew that osc-gum daily ;) so basically the rights are set depending on the server, I assume it's linux, than check yr web controlpanel or ask your host where to set the rights. normally ther should be s.th like a directory folder in the web-cp and ther you should see a line equal to e.g. rwxrwxrwx or rw-rw-rw- after all folders and files to set the rights for each of them these are the rights for owner group and user with readwrite execute. so if it's talked about 777 that means rwxrwxrwx like read write execute for all. check your controlpanel for that issue, it's a minor once you now howto it's 3 clicks like ;) the other way would be using bash commands in e.g. putty, but maybe that is too much for now. so suggestion is the manual of your cp, what do you use? dahui
