I think I would keep the background white while it is loading.

 

Also, be aware that to get listed in the "live shops" area you need to have the shipping, privacy, and conditions of use pages filled out if they are going to be listed in your store.

The animated flags look plain ugly in my opinion. (Its slowing down my firefox too for some reason, probably because they are scaled animated gifs)

 

You desperately need to use a thumbnail contribution too, your thumbs will look better for it and the customers on 56k will thank you.

 

Remove the number of requests, it shows that you not been going long and will not inspire confidence.

 

I would also install a categories in main index page rather than showing so many products in the "new products for september" box, as you have few categories and will make shopping/clicking for categories easier. Also remove category counts from the categories info box as long as your categories are populated.

 

I would remove the languages and currencies box whilst you only have one language / currency in operation.
