The dreaded "two folder issue"

With your ftp program check and see if you've got a folder named private_html or something like that. If you do, drop a little "hello world" index.html file in there and access the site via the https address. If you see your hello world you do for sure.

What system is the server running? (Plesk, Ensim etc.)

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

You said you installed a Certificate? This is what I get when I click "My Account", then if I continue I get the 404.

My webhost provides a SSL Manger in which i can generate my own KEY my own CSR and my own CRT and i did them all and installed them all they are valid for 30 day what am i doing wrong?

Posted

once u generate your csr you then must use it to purchase an ssl certificate from an ssl provider

Posted

so in other words I do have a certificate? If not what are all 3 things i generated and it seems to say i do have one and when you goto a secured area it still acts like I have one.

Also my host has cPanel so from what I have read and heard I can generate my own certificate in the SSL Manager and i do believe I did but i get a 404 page not found when i try to access a secured area :sweating:

They say they do, but reading this doesn't much enhance their credibility.

How visitor can saw my site?

You must upload your main page to the public_html directory via FTP eg.WS_FTP program or login to your cpanel control panel selete file manager and upload your file to the directory you seleted via browser. You must rename your main page to index.html or index.htm

You get what you pay for. I'd find a more credible hosting company and pay a few bucks more.

If i goto https://publicwholesale.net i get a cpanel There is no website configured at this address. how would i get a page displyed? I need alot of help I'm stuck and spending hours on this little thing tring to get it to work

If you generate your own full SSL certificate using cPanel then this will not be a 'trusted' certificate, because it is issued to your site and by your site. A trusted certificate is issued to your site but is issued by a reputable authority such as Geotrust or VeriSign etc.

A certificate which is generated by your control panel is called a 'self-signed' certificate and is a complete and utter waste of time.

Nevertheless if you wish to use it then once you have generated your own certificate you have to get your web hosting company to restart Apache on that server for the change to take effect.

Also, you can only use a full certificate - whether it is 'trusted' or 'not trusted' if your site has its own dedicated ip address. You can't do it if you use a shared ip address.
