webwannabee Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Getting such nice help here, thot I'd try again..well now I know how to edit things by accessing the ftp (at least, I changed a gif in the header on front page by finding it public.html>templates>images etc...but I've browsed through the whole ftp files practically and can't find any html file or whatever it is that has SPELLING mistakes (well, just two, but they make me crazy I am crazy that way lol) in it. So please help thanx :)
jeffy777 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 sounds like you need to edit the language files (they contain all the text for your store). They can be found in catalog/includes/languages.
webwannabee Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Thanks Jefy777, I'll remember that, that's probably how it's usually done (and there is something in 'languages' but I finally got a brain, went 'view source' and discovered that frontpage text is html on an index page, that I could edit in notepad...but I can't find THAT file anywhere, so I can't put it in notepad and edit it...is there some other way (think someone showed me once, how to edit a page on the web..
wizardsandwars Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 No html files. It's ALL in php. You *have* to use FTP to download the files to your desktop, open them in a text editor, make the edits, and FTP upload them back in place. Almost all of the text is defined in the language directory. For text on the main page, try /catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php or /catalog/includes/languages/english.php ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
webwannabee Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Thanks! (I was afraid of that...php, just ANOTHER thing I gotta get around to learning lol)
webwannabee Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 sorry, it wouldn't let me edit the previous post (hence another post) k ..ummm, I found that php file (catalogue...>english>index.php and opened and edited it in notepad (opened notepad, then grabbed it from ftp>.....>index.php but when I tried to save it, I got this :( ..and I'm not sure how to do that other thing u mentioned (downloading and uploading in ftp..sorry, I'm trying to run before I can walk!)
