Shipping and Download co-existing?

I downloaded today and have spent a considerable amount of time with the product ? very nice.

Question:

My scenario is I want everyone to receive the ?Download your products here:? feature on their ?Your order has been processed? page. However, I find that when I implement download as a feature then no shipping options show up on the Payment Information page.

How can I configure this so the user can select a shipping method, if they want one, and still receive the download feature?

How can I configure this so the user can select ?download only? so they?re not charged a shipping fee?

Shipping is not charged on downloads, because they are virtual products which do not require shipping. Virtual products have zero weight.

Other (non-virtual) products have a weight attached to them and so shipping charges apply to these items.

Thank you for the reply.

I understand the virtual concept and that downloads are downloads. However, the scenario is:

"I'm a customer who wants to download a virtual product (software) and begin using right away, but I also want to have a CD (boxed version) sent to my office or home so I can have a physical backup - many people do this."

In this scenario how could you configure "shipping" so a user can select "download only" or "download now and ship a cd"?

Many thanks!

It seems to me that you need some additional programming to make that work, however it's not a huge thing to do - maybe 2-3 hours including design, programming and testing.

I recall that there is a function for determining whether a product is virtual, hacking that function should do the trick.

Cheers,

Kalle!
