bobg7 Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 As most of us are working on small budgets and also need to get visitors to our websites I was wondering which of the two Pay Par Click Programs, Yahoo Sponsored Links or Google Adsense, get the better return for your investment. Thank you for taking this poll and your remarks, Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going.
hubcat Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I've been using Google Adwords, and have gotten very bad results. I'm not sure if this is because most people searching are really just browsing, not buying, or because my Google Ad campaign sucks (keep tweaking it to see if different ideas get different results) or if my niche doesn't do well in search or if my site needs work. :( Anyway, I'd love to hear some opinions on this poll. I wasn't planning on expanding into Yahoo! until I can get some decent results on Google. Don't want to pay double for no sales. But maybe I should give up on Google entirely for a while and try Yahoo! instead? What have other done? Thanks, Adrienne

What have other done? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know that others have found exactly the oposite, but my experience has been that I get a higher conversion rate with Yahoo (formerly Overture). I think they each have their own demographic. Hence, it depends on your target market which one performs better. brianlschultz Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 We were using Google Ad words for my site spa cover pro. We received about 10 hits a day but no sales. It was costing us about $250.00 a month. It is hard to tell if we really received good hits or if it was just bots running wild on the internet. We have yet to find a good way to get traffic. I wish there was a better way to seperate content from ecommerce sites on the internet. Any ideas?
andro123 Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 I tried Google adwords. I paid a fortune for no sales at all and as a result cancelled the account. They now have a feature where they will do tageted banners and you pay minimum of 0.50 per 1000 displays I believe- this has been the more effective method- although still not mega promotion, just a few extra views.

That's not a bad price for targeted banners. Are you getting conversions from them though? I tried targeted banners a few years ago (they were a lot more expensive then) and got very few click throughs from them and almost no conversions. At this price and with Google doing the targeting, it might be worth giving it another try. kitchenniche Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 I'm using Google Adwords and have pretty good results with it. For most keywords the trick is to only bid the minimum amount, which is usually $0.03 per click. I'm doing it this way and my average position is 3, which is not bad for only 3 cents... Nobody will have success when using any kind of pay per click for the first time. It's all about testing what works best for your store. I used to bid for keywords for the theme of my store. Here's an example: If i had a Home Appliance Store, I would have bidded for keywords such as "home appliance" "home appliance store" and so on. I didn't get a good return for those kind of keywords. This is possibly because a home appliance store could have about 1 Million different products. Instead, i now bid for keywords for certain products itself, and it's working great so far.
