Error on customer login page

I get the following errors when getting forwarded to the customer login page (from the front page that says "welcome guest" - you can register a new account then it logs you in but if you log out then try and just go to the login page it throws up these errors) ...

 

Warning: Unexpected character in input: ' in /home/hangmans/public_html/catalog/login.php on line 226

 

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/hangmans/public_html/catalog/login.php on line 226

Any help would be very much appreciated - warning though I don't really understand much php at all, picked this for the easy to use installation.

How's it going? When you installed this did you check the SSL option?

so you setup a link to login page or are you having problems with account creation?

Hi again,

 

No problem with people creating an account, it's just when an account has already been created if anyone tries to go direct to the login page (login.php) is when the error kicks in.

 

I did not check the SSL option when I installed it - should I have done - will this solve it? How do I do this once it's been installed?
