osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Is it really this tricky?

Hi All,

I found oscommerce and wanted to test it on my pc, but I have come across difficulties in actually setting the store up.

I am new to php, but have experience in other programming.

I have installed php and IIS is active. I tried running the install file and got the 'register globals' error which ive patched. Now, on installation i get to the 'database import' page, but have no idea what to enter.

I am using this program from scratch - i have no database and no idea where any default database would be.

Can anyone help me get past this (early) step, and also let me know how easy oscommerce is to install for an intermediate user? I have tried both nopcart and comersus and had no problems installing either - just wondered if theres something obvious ive missed?

I am trying to run this on windows XP.

Many thanks.

Dan.

Okay, uninstall IIS, and install the all-in-one package XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/en). This will install the Apache web server, PHP 4 and 5, phpMyAdmin, MySQL, Open SSL, FileZilla and Mercury Mail Client, plus other stuff you need.

Much better than struggling with IIS.

Hi, Vger.

I have the server running, its the database installation step i need to get past. Im guessing XAMPP wont help with that?
