Installing Password and user name

Hi, I have just tried to do a search for help on how to set up the user name and password for the admin of my oscommerce website, but when I tried to do the search I got an error message instead. So I have to ask the question that I am sure has been asked a 1000 times before how do I set up my user name and password? I have tried to find out how to do it on my own but have not been able to figure it out, please help!

use your host cpanel/vdeck and use the 'password protect directory' there are also contributions for admin access levels
