Hi Guys

I got stuck with a bad host, they have lousey uptime and support, it takes them 3 days to reply to emails and my site it my income, so as you can imagine I need to move it to another host ASAP

Also all email functions on the site have stopped working - customer notifications and the 'Contact Us' page.

I am a complete newbie, is is complicated to move everything 'as is' over to another host? OR will I have to literally rebuild my store, noooo!

Please help. :'(

Under Tools --> Backup in your osCommerce admin panel download a backup of your database (no compression). Then download a complete set of all your files/folders via FTP to your computer.

Upload all of the files/folders to your new hosting company, create a new (blank) database, access it via phpMyAdmin, click on the SQL tab, use the Browse function to locate the backup sql file on your own computer, click 'Go' and the database will be populated.

Now edit the two configure.php files, with the new pathway from the root, the new database name, and new MySQL User Name and Password.

Then add any e-mail addresses you used to have to your new web hosting control panel.

It's not hard, the process has been described here many, many times. Someone with practice can do it in less than 30 minutes.

The one thing I'd advise that I've not often seen suggested is to set up another server account with a different hosting company with a "scratch" domain name. Make sure you find a new host which supports multiple domain pointers.

If you don't have spare names just register a new one for the purpose.

Copy all the php and image files to the new server, then backup the db (uncompressed). Copy the backup over to the new server and import it via phpMyAdmin.

You'll need to change the two configure.php files to match your new temporary domain name but that's simple.

Once you're happy with the new setup you can go to your domain register and change the name server setup to point to your new location. Make two simple changes to the configure.php files and you're moved. Cancel the old service.

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

Similar request, I think. I am done experimenting witht OSC on my machine and will not be hosting it here. After I am up and running on the server how do I remove it from my Mac system? Is there an uninstall command that will remove it or do I need to do it one file at a time? What files?

I would keep those files and make any changes you intend there first, test them, and then only upload after you're sure they work.
