configure.php/downloadable product directory

I have pink text boxes telling me that my back up directory does not exist, please set up in configure.php. What is the address for this? I have tried to find it under "configuration", and by adding it to the address bar at the top.

 

I am also told that my downloadable products directory does not exist. Is this because I am not on line yet? Do I have to do something to activate this?

I have the same question. Where do I go to create a backup? And how do I create a backup? Since I am a newbie, I would appreciate step-by-step instructions. Thanks a bunch.
