Guest Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 many of my manufacturers have long names, and somehow they're getting cut off on the pulldown menu. how can i disable this?
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 there is a 32 character limit for the manufacturers name because of the dbase table. You could change it to 64 back up your dbase first
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 how would i do that? could it do damage to my database?
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 well no idea I think it shouldnt but you never know so backup the dbase first. Do you have phpmyadmin?
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 yes i have phpmyadmin whereabouts do i go to modify the limit? the pulldown menu is much longer than the characters it actually uses, it looks a bit funny
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 on phpmyadmin the left pane click manufacturers then click the structure tab (should be already there) then tick the check box that say manufacturers_name then on the right side of the same row click the edit symbol on the new screen change the length/values to 64 Click save I did say to backup first didnt I? :D
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 i always back it up, i've had some close calls in the past :D i did what you said, it's still showing a max of 15 characters i looked, but i didn't see any limits for fields of 15/16 fields anywhere. the lowest field was 11, i changed that but no result
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 did you change the max value in the admin panel for the manufacturer? admin->configuration->max values?
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 gah! that did the trick. i always anticipating things are harder than they are...
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 :D  :D I thought initially you had the max value set and was thinking the complicated part. Anyways if you still have it at 64, try it out, see what it does before restoring the dbase unless you really need more than 32 chars
Guest Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 i set it back to it's original value once it didn't work, seems to be working smoothly
