jerrysgirl Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Greetings- Our church had a website designed, and an online bookstore page and a contributions page included. Our web designer installed Oscommerce 2.2 -MS2 for the bookstore and contributions pages of our site, and has basically disappeared (he's not answering our calls or being any real help to us). I've been given the task of trying to get our bookstore up and running, and am totally lost. Our catalog (for our online bookstore and our contributions pages) looks almost like the demonstration catalog that you have on line, including the statement: "This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed. Any information seen on these products is to be treated as fictional." So, here are the start of my questions: 1. First, I really have no idea where to start. If there are set steps to follow on how to get our site up and running, someone please tell me where to go, and I will follow them. 2. I printed out the 'online HTML Documentation', but when I go to our site, log in as administrator, then try to make changes to set up the store, the setup screens on our store look different from the ones in the documentation. For example, I set up Product Attributes. But when I started adding products, the pages where I entered and later edited the product information looked nothing like what was refered to in the documentation [the Products Edit General listing page under the Admin>Catalog>Products>Edit>General section], and I never did find out how to add the attributes to my products... it never was an option. Am I doing something wrong, or do I have documentation for a different version of osCommerce than we are running? 3. I assume that osCommerce (and not a demo version of some type) has actually been installed on our computer. Should we start installing products now or should we be a live store before we start installing products? 4. What does it take to become a live store? 5. We have a merchant account set up... how do I know if everything is installed/ connected so that items will be billed to our merchant account? (I'm assuming the statement that "any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed. " is true.) 6. In the upper left hand corner of our store, it says "eCommerce" & has a small graphic to the left of the words (in the same place of the demo catalog, it says "osCommerce'. and hs the same graphic to the left of the words). How do we change that so that it says the name of our bookstore instead of eCommerce? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me!
♥Vger Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Given that you have no knowledge of osCommerce, or even if your so-called 'web designer' has installed osCommerce or some 'loaded' version of it, it sounds as though you need someone more reliable to see the project through to completion. After it has been completed and is up and running then that would be the time for you to be instructed in how to keep it up to date. It sounds as though the online HTMl documetation you have downloaded is for MS3 which has not been released yet. You need to go to www.oscommerce.com, click the downloads link and you'll see a link to a PDF file for download - and this is the one for osCommerce MS2 (the current stable version). Vger
