Inserting pics, slide shows, google ads etc..

Hello everyone......does anyone know how to add pics, slide shows, flashy text, google ads and other dynamic stuff to your main front page?

 

My current store front page is looking rather boring....plus I would like to put google ads on my store to generate additional income.....

 

I don't know code...does anyone know which page I have to edit - is it the index.php (english page)

 

ALso can you actually incoporate javascript into the index page?? I have found some javascript for a slide show but not sure how I now combine this into my index page without making a mess of it....
