Guest
I hired a website designer because I needed to expand my product line and through our discussions this person seemed to really have a good idea for what I was looking for. Well, unfortunately its been over a couple months since I've heard anything and I doubt the site is going to be completed at all. I am not familiar with web design, but am quick to pick up on things so I would like to figure out what has been done with my website. The person uploaded quite a few php files into my servers control panel but what I don't understand is why I have to log into the admin panel on his website to add products. This is the admin panel that is on his site that I started adding products to: http://www.oscommerce.com/images/screensho...scommerce-4.png My current website is http://www.detroitturbo.com The original designer of this site does nice work, I just needed a better method of uploading products on a larger scale and the OS commerce seems to have everything I could think of needing...(inventory, category system, shipping calc by zip code, etc.) Hopefully I can still use my current shopping cart and verisign, but if not then I'll have to figure out how the other setup works within OS commerce. and the one he started as the new site but did not complete is located here: http://www.detroitturbo.com/catalog I started adding all of my categories and subcategories, but I need to know how I get the admin control panel on my site. I would like to sever all ties with him and I am looking for some info on what I need to get started on my own. Could anyone give me some advice on how I could get started? Would I need to purchase the OS Commerce software? I just don't really understand why he would need to upload all of those files and have the OS admin panel on his website. thanks in advance for any help. I've really been setback because of this not to mention the $700 I paid upfront (half the price) to get nothing in return. I don't care if I need to start over completely by downloading the software, I just want to know how to get started.
Wendy James
The admin to your site shouis at http://www.detroitturbo.com/catalog/admin But until you change the folder name and passwords (as well as the admin configuration file to refelct the changes) I wouldn't do too much because if he has access to your admin from his website that can be a very bad thing down the road. Never heard of anyone doing that before. Odd if you ask me. I have never done something like that for a client. Sure, upload the stuff on my server while being worked on (layout, contribs being installed and the site being tested) then it is always upload to their server. Never let anyone add any real products or store information until the site is finished and it is on their server. osCommerce is FREE. Contributions found here for download are free. No need to pay for anything other than hosting. Sure hope you have something in writing from this guy saying what he would do and how much he was charging or you will probably have to take it as a loss. He changed the "OS Commerce" heading in the admin to show the name of his website and then underneath that put "E-Commerce Control Panel" The reason I thought it was tied to his site in some way was because I gave him the password to my control panel so that he could upload files and when I changed the password, the /catalog page would come up as missing for some reason. So I changed the password to access the /catalog/admin control panel but if I change the main password to my main control panel that new page doesn't show up. Here , I will change it so that when you go to http://www.detroitturbo.com/catalog will show an error. Why is that happening and is there somewhere I need to change that password from the old to the new so that the new OS Commerce page will appear? I am going to change the password to my control panel so it shows the error, I really don't want him having access to my main control panel as that could cause many problems. Thank you for the help, I realize I might have to take a loss, but I know where to find him when I decide to.
