Making changes to front page

Hi,

I realy can not get my head around this but don't want give up.I have read and re read these posts but I am still lost.I understand how to change the front page with a fresh download i.e. catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php file ,but osC was pre instaled by our host Netexplorer.It all works fine but I can not edit the files needed to change things like the front page est. I have been told not to edit them online but to download on to my pc then edit and upload.So I have downloaded via an FTP (filezila) on to my pc and saved the folders/files above.For the life of me I can not find the file needed to change the front page text on the list above.Am I going mad or looking in the wrong place.Out of the folders/files above will I find the font page I need to change,

Sorry to ask for help,but I like the osC program and just want to get it up online,

i'd (guess) it would be in httpdocs, but to find out do the following.

 

go to your admin control panel and file manager

 

Admin -> choose TOOLS, then choose FILE MANAGER.

 

Click on the folder INCLUDES, then it will refresh , then click on it again.

Scroll down the file list, and click on the file 'configure.php', then click on Edit.

 

it will open in a window, scroll down about 40 lines and you will find the entry for 'DIR_FS_CATALOG' which will look something like this...

 

define 'DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/xxx/catalog/')

 

that will give you the full location of your catalog file :D

 

be sure not to make any changes, close the admin and navigate to it through your ftp program.
