OM2 Posted September 7, 2005 Share Posted September 7, 2005 I'm new to osCommerce. What I've seen so far is very good. But the thing is... ALL the websites I've seen are BLAND! Yes... the osCommerce default template is a very good design. But I haven't seen any other websites that are significatnly different and/or look really good. So... I have seen sites that have been drastically changed and others that kept the basic form and just made simple modifications. I felt that there were good and bad looking stores in both categories. IMHO, e-commerce sites are different from other types of sites in that ease of use and professional appearance is more important than graphical flair. Ease of use generally relates to structure and features. The perception of professionalism relies on good use of color, fonts, content and spelling. All that said, in e-commerce, simpler is sometimes better. And, repeating, that is just my opinion. Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.
