Navigation Header

I hope someone can make sense of this. Following is the code for the navigation header (HeaderNavigation) from /catalog/index.php. I have removed the text "Cart Contents" and "Checkout", and replaced them with two small images. The problem is that the remaining text "My Account" and "Log Off" DO NOT line up in the middle of the navigation header bar, they are forced to the top. I can't get the code right so the text will be in the middle of the bar. Anyone care to take a look at it?

<table border="0" width="975" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">

<tr class="headerNavigation">

<td class="headerNavigation">  <?php echo $breadcrumb->trail(' » '); ?></td>

<td align="right" class="headerNavigation"><?php if (tep_session_is_registered('customer_id')) { ?><a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_LOGOFF, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_LOGOFF; ?></a>  |  <?php } ?><a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_ACCOUNT, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_MY_ACCOUNT; ?></a>  |  <a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><img border="0" src="../images/cart_contents.gif" width="18" height="17" align="middle" alt="Cart Contents"></a>  |  <a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_SHIPPING, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><img border="0" src="../images/checkout.gif" width="18" height="17" align="middle" alt="Checkout"></a>   </td>

</tr>

</table>

Thank you!!

Rebecca
