Two Easy Questions?

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have totally stripped the default template for oscommerce so that it looks exactly how I want it... except for two tiny problems.

1. How Do I totally remove this grey area and the text within it? (shown in image below) I have tried searching but not sure what it is even called :huh:

2. There appears to be three empty rows (shown in image below) that I would like to remove. Should I be editing header or index.php?? Could this be from where I commented out the 'Whats New Here' text and 'Welcome Guest, would you like to login' text?

I want the end result to look like this:

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I apologise in advance for my shoddy screengrabs but I feel it helps explain my problems easier :)

I found this in my header.php;

<table border="0" width="820" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1" align="center">
?<tr class="headerNavigation">
? ?<td class="headerNavigation">  <?php echo $breadcrumb->trail(' » '); ?></td>
? ?<td align="right" class="headerNavigation"><?php if (tep_session_is_registered('customer_id')) { ?><a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_LOGOFF, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_LOGOFF; ?></a>  |  <?php } ?><a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_ACCOUNT, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_MY_ACCOUNT; ?></a>  |  <a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_CART_CONTENTS; ?></a>  |  <a href="<?php echo tep_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_SHIPPING, '', 'SSL'); ?>" class="headerNavigation"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_CHECKOUT; ?></a>   </td>
?</tr>
</table>

<?php
?if (isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['error_message']) && tep_not_null($HTTP_GET_VARS['error_message'])) {
?>
<table border="0" width="100%" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">
?<tr class="headerError">
? ?<td class="headerError"><?php echo htmlspecialchars(urldecode($HTTP_GET_VARS['error_message'])); ?></td>
?</tr>
</table>
<?php
?}

?if (isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['info_message']) && tep_not_null($HTTP_GET_VARS['info_message'])) {
?>
<table border="0" width="100%" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">
?<tr class="headerInfo">
? ?<td class="headerInfo"><?php echo htmlspecialchars($HTTP_GET_VARS['info_message']); ?></td>
?</tr>
</table>
<?php
?}
?>

That might be a little messy to understand, basically there are three tables and I believe those three tables are causing me to have three rows of empty space. Can I just delete it or move it all into one table or something?

Any advice would be appreciated, grazie

The code you want is in index.php and not header.php. And yes, it's likely that the commenting out you did caused this as you did not remove enough.

The code you quote from header.php is not responsible for this - that code creates tables only if there are error or informational messages.

Thanks stevel, at least I know what file I should be editing now :) Unfortunately I am still a little lost about where abouts in the file I should be looking. Can anyone please help me out?

My store will practically be finished as soon as I sort this one problem out :thumbsup: How do I remove these three blank table rows between breadcrumbs & infobox from index.php?

I suggest that you use View Source in your browser to look at the generated HTML. You can then get a clue where this extra space is being added. Since you created these blank rows yourself, it's hard to guess what you might need to do.
