secure SSL connection

1. Use an https link to open the admin page.

2. In admin/includes/configure.php, change HTTP_SERVER's value to be the same as HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER's value.

A link that begins with https instead of http - as in the value you have for HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER (or HTTPS_SERVER in the catalog's includes/configure.php.) For example: https://www.example.com/catalog/admin

You have to ask your host. Since you're asking, I assume you have not purchased and installed an SSL certificate for your site (otherwise you would not have to ask.) Some hosts allow this - it costs extra. If you did this, then yes, you would just replace http with https in your URLs.

Many hosts will let you use a "shared SSL certificiate", but you will then have to ask the host what the proper URL is.

On my Admin site I get the following message:

"You are not protected by a secure SSL connection"

How can I correct this?

The first thing you need is an SSL certificate either shared or full. Until you have one or other of these you cannot do anything.
