How to add Taxes?

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have a supplement website and dont charge sales tax for any of my products... however I am now adding a video which I need to collect tax. How do I get this to work on this one product and where do I go to do it.

I changed "Display Prices with Tax" to "true" but its still not showing tax. Tax Decimal places is showing "0".

Tax Rates is showing "Florida" 7.0% and when I click "New Tax Rate", the drop down lists only Florida. How do I add other tax rates?

Please send me an email because I do not receive email notification to replies to the the topics for some reason even though its checked off in my profile.

Im lost as far as taxes, some detailed help would be greatly appreciated! I will send anyone who gets this to work for me some free product for the help!

Don

First you have to add tax zones - and perhaps delete the Florida Zone if you're not in Florida. The name of the Tax Zone must match one of the Zone names from the zones table. If you have a single state-wide tax, that's easy, just name the state.

Next you add tax classes. Since all your existing products probably have "Taxable Goods" as their class, I'd suggest you define a new class such as "Videos".

Now you add definitions for tax rates and the zone to which each applies. If you must charge a tax in multiple zones, you'll need one rate for each zone. The priority number determines if taxes are applied separately or compounded (tax on a tax).

osC will automatically apply the defined taxes for customers in the specified zones.

The osC documentation for taxes is pretty awful.

A correction to above. You create named tax zones and then click on the folder next to the zone name to insert zones from your zone table into the tax zone. The name of the tax zone can be whatever you want it to be that makes sense.
