When you see something on a page that you don't want, look at the address bar to see which file has been pulled (like index.php, or create_account.php). That may be the file you need to edit. It may not be IF the thing appears on almost every other page, up in the header, in the footer, or in one of the side columns. If that's the case, then it will be one of those four files in the catalog/includes folder that you want to look at.
