getting started - installing osCommerce..

I'm building an online store and am trying to install OSCommerce through my hosting provider's admin pages. It won't let me, because apparently it includes an images folder and I already have an images folder in the root directory of my site. What should I do?

(I feel compelled to say I'm new to all this so if responses could be sort of dumbed-down for me I'd appreciate it)

name your existing image folder "images_old".  This way you don't have to move it but osCommerce won't look to it for images.

But this will change the path to images for my entire site, won't it? I wondered if maybe I could create a new folder within the root and call it osCommerce and install osCommerce there instead of into the root itself...? Will this work?
