Sierrab
I installed ocommerce today and am trying to get set up. When I go to the install url I get an error saying that page is not found. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I had the same issue with zen cart and ended up giving up. Now I am having the same problem here. I am new to this so am not sure what I need to do. I used cute ftp to upload the files. Please help! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't give up!! Follow these instructions Start Again I suggest that first off you install the OSCommerc on your PC, get it working how you want with modifications etc Then you can upload it layer Are you on a PC? If yes, then this is a foolproof way of making it all happen Step1 Set up a localhost on your PC, this will give you a virtual Internet just on your own PC Go to http://www.canowhoopass.com/guides/easyphp/ These are fantastic instructions for installing Easy PHP. Print out each page (You can ignore the bit about setting up mail!!) Easy PHP will install a web sever a MYSQL database PHPMyAdmin and a PHP Server on your PC in one go!! There you will find a link to download Easy PHP, which will create a complete system for you to test and build your OSC store on your own PC before you upload it. This is the best way to do it It will save you weeks in the long run Once you have Easy PHP running after doing all the test they ask you to, the next thing you will need to do is install OSCommerce on your PC Right Click on the flashing E that Easy PHP placed in the bottom right hand corner of the screen Choose Administration, a browse window will open, choose manage database Then create a new database, just type the name that you want to use into the box and hit go (Write down the name!!) Also it will be a lot easier if you use the same name as you are using on your current web server, .not essential but less to change later Did you download a zipped copy, if not do this now, Download a fresh copy of OSCommerce MS 2.2 from the OSCommerce web site. Save it to a nice new folder on your desktop Once that is done Unzip it to the same folder on the desktop (I assume that you have Win Zip installed?? If not get it now!!) Once it is unzipped copy the catalog folder from the new folder to the www folder in the Easy PHP folder Open up your browser and type 127.0.0.1/catalog/install/index.php You should have page one of the install screen Then just follow the instructions On the Database import page Database Server is localhost User name is root Password leave blank for now Database Name is whatever you called it Don?t tick persistent connections Session Storage, Choose database Then just carry on till you are finished I know it might all sound a bit daunting but this is the way to do it When you are happy with your store running locally the when you upload it to your web site you only have to change 2 files, both called configure.php to reflect the new location Good Luck Steve
