install site on backup database???

Recommended Posts

hello, Derek here

i have installed a backup database ( ipowerweb) and dont seem to understand , or can figure out how to install my site on the backup so i can have a site to play with and not screw up my site.

have read the below site but cant get my head around it.

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/lofiversion/i...php/t89185.html

1. can i upload my site to the backup d/base or do i need to install a new version.

2.if i upload the catalog file to my root folder where my site is installed will this cause problems, as there is a site in their already, i pressume if i upload this new catalog , or my sites catalog folder ( which would be better) then when i go to new install then i select new install and then step 4 kicks in and is that where i choose the database setings.

if so is it easy to play with this site on the server, cheers.

3. then go to the url http://www.your-domain-name.com/catalog/install

for me would be http://www.hypertech.co.nz/catalog/install , then select new install, ive tried this but get no where, ive tried changing ther url around but still nought, and i dont want to stuff my original site even though im still working on it.

sorry a bit long and trying to understand these processes.

any help or advice appreciated.

derek :'(

Hey Derek,

Here is what you want to do !

Dump a copy of OSC in a folder on your server. e.g. catalog2/

This can be a modded version of OSC or it can be the default download of OCS.

If it is a modded version, you will need to upload (dump) the catalog/install folder to your catalog2/ directory.

Run the installer page in IE, and configure your options. (you do this for a new install or to re-configure the options for a modded version of OSC.)

You do not want to specify a modded database, just let OSC install its database.

Now in your Host control panel, you go into PHPmyadmin Database thing, and Select All and choose DROP. then you go and upload a txt file backup of the database you want OSC to use.

Ok thanxs, have installed new catalog2 folder with all appropiate files.

my site is hypertech.co.nz (well soon ) but i cant seem to access the install procedure it says

http://www.my-server.com/osCommerce/ to put in this line so i presume it would look like this since im not online yet

http://hypertech.co.nz/osCommerce/

but since i just copied my catalog then opened and inserted over to catalog2 folde

i cant seem to bring up the install procedure, im on ipowerweb

do i have to change certain setting in the includes/configure.php file to match the database and new user name for the newly installed database.

or am i looking at this the wrong way , could i back the store up into my trial database and access m there, if so how would that be.

sorry bit long but any help appreciated, thinking of setting up linux, phpmyadmin, ect at home with help is this a good thing too do.

thanxs derek

sorry might not be clear , im trying to put my site on another database that i made on my hosting site, ive installed another database and just copied my store catalog folder contents across, and put it in catalog2 folder. but i cant seem to access the install procedure to be able to install the store on second database.

sorry if im not to clear but sometimes i think i confuse my self.

have tried http://hypertech.co.nz/osCommerce/install when i did my original install, but my includes/configure.php has info from my original store that im backing up, is this making a difference , and would i need to put a clean configure.php file in to be able to do this.

are my chmod settings wrong, tried a few combinations.

any help appreciated, or am i doing this the wrong way.

cheers titch
