Proccessing Credit Cards

We are looking into osCommerence's online store. My question relates to payment through use of credit cards. We were trying to determine the percent that the credit cards companies or osCommerence takes from each transaction. With our actual store machines it is anywhere from 3%-5%.

Thanks in advance,

Stan Erdmann

It's about the same online, except there is normally a $10 gateway fee, in addition to the normal $20 merchant acocunt fee.

Other than that, in the US, standard rates for a good merchant account / payment gateway combo is aobut 2.29% + .25 per.

You can use regular paypal for a bit less than that, but it makes the checkout longer, and you'll actually lose business if that's your only processor. You can use PayPal's new Payment Pro, wich is more like a traditional merchant account / gateway, but costs are about the same.

NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.

If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.

So is the gateway and merchant account fee a yearly payment?

Thanks for all the help. My question now is can we use out current credit card that is physically in our shop instead of paying another gateway fee or merchant account. What exactly does the osCommerence output. Will it show the customer credit card information and billing information for us to process or will osCommerence the credit card. Sorry for all the questions...I'm pretty ignorant to the subject.

Thanks in advance

The standard CC module that installs with the basic installation will allow you to capture CC details for in-store processing.
