Basic How To Info

I need some help. I am a newbie to working with an e-commerce site and osCommerce. I have recently installed osCommerce 2.2 MS2 on my new web site under development through my host provider. What I would like to do is perform my development locally on my workstation and then upload changes to the future production Internet site. Is this considered the "normal" way to manage osCommerce in a production Internet environment?

I plan to install My SQL and osCommerce on a local site on my local workstation to do all my development work. What is the proper way to upload the osCommerce development work into the osCommerce on my Internet site? I am familiar with the database backup. Is that all that is needed.

Please forgive my ignorance here, I am very green.

Thank you,

Joe

Yes, this is how most people develop.

Often when uploading a changed file I will rename the existing file on the server to maintain it as a backup - its simple and it works.
