Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable

Hello,

In my OC installation, the admin catalog pages give me the following error:

" Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: <MyRootFolderPath>/cadcart/images/"

Where <MyRootFolderPath> is the path from the cart to the root.

I also get this error about the backup directory, from the backup admin pages:

"Error: Backup directory is not writeable."

The permissions of these folders are the same as every other folder. The only way I can make them writeable is to enable Write for everyone, which is not a good idea.

The OC File Manager can access the directories just fine and indicates that the owner and group are the same as everytthing else.

The database username and password, as specified in admin/includes/configure.php, are different from the file permission's username and passwords.

I can also access the directorie by ftp.

Please help, thanks.

They must be 777 I believe, for both of those folders.

Do not use the file manager for anything.

Hello, thanks for your help.

I don't use the File manager at all, I just thought it would be a good test that OC itself can access the directories.

As for the permissions they are 775. Setting them to 777 will enable anyone to write to those directories, which is a bad thing beleive me. I had set the folders this way to setup my original catalog and someone took that opportunity to install a PayPal phishing emaill sender script in my /images/ folder. My ISP got overloaded and suspended my store. Furthermore, my web host IP address probably got black listed, potentially affecting my search engine resutls and abillity to reach my customers by email.

Any other idea ?

Thanks.

do you have an .htaccess that restricts writing to the backup dir? I also have similar settings and there is no problem backing up the dbase.

Hello,

Again thanks for the help.

I have found .htaccess and .htaccess2 in the admin directory, none of them mention the image or backup folder.

I also looked at the .htaccess of my site and no mention of images or backup there either.

Thanks for the hint as i could have looked for a long time if that had been the problem.

Any other ideas ?

Thanks !

there are some settings in htaccess that can restrict access to subdirs they dont have to mention it. So in my case I dont need to lock every subdir for access once I deny access to the top, thats it, no access is allowed to the subdirectories.
