dotc0m
Hi, im looking at osCommerce as a solution but im not even good in PHP so i would like to ask some questions before putting some time to it... I would like to know if anything of my request here is possible with oscommerce and if its those things are there on a fresh install.... 1- I want a shopping cart but all the stuff shown on my website will be free. 2- The free stuff order will require a montly membership. That i would like to be managed by oscommerce. 3- I would like to lock a member(a specific member) from getting any items when i dont want it too. So he get a specific message when trying to add a ANY ITEMS to is shopping cart. Explanation : this is mainly because i own a videostore and would like people to rent dvd online I would like people to buy a montly membership so he could rent a max of 2 dvd at same to so i would manage the right manually, but once i lock him he wont be able to make a order. I would lock people from asking for more until he send the dvd back. So i manually edit is profile so he can make 1 or 2 more order for any items. 4- Be able to views is profile or a custom note page on the member so i know if is membership is expired. or something Like he buy a item that grant him 30days of membership but want to get a tracking of this so when it end i get a warning so i could lock the account. I wasnt able to install oscommerce at all so i couldn't test it, and before putting more time into troubleshooting i would like to know if my expectation are too high, if some mod exist for this... ALSO, i dont know if i can ask this here but plz forgive me if its a infregement but I WOULD LIKE TO HIRE SOMEONE with proven accomplishment TO INSTALL/CONFIGURE the way i want it. Unless what im asking can be easyly done, free support would be cool and i can affirm i could also tend to be very generous to someone that would help me setup my own oscommerce the way i want it. you can get in touch in me by sending me private message with anwser or you can simply post it public. ♥Vger
Those things are not part of osCommerce by default, and it would require quite a major rewrite to get it to behave the way you want it to. If anyone approaches you and says they can do it the best advice I can give you is to ask for proof that they've done it before - and don't pay them all the fee up-front. dotc0m
thx for the info. Just to clarify things...If someone claim it can be done, for sure i require proof of it. In business, most of the time, the customer pay when the job is done. So a upfront fee is mostly used by scammer. If you made something similar and have a way i could see it live or on a demo environnement i would really enjoy it... Then, i would be really pleased to get in touch with you for deeper details I know there is a contribution section that can be helpful. But i lack the knowledge so if you think you can setup something and make it to work! Great! that will save me time and i will reward this. Just to filter my 1st request and get it simple... it could be a "item" that once it is buyed, grant access to others items. So a admin can "block" a member from being able to add new items to the shopping cart. So if he didnt buyed the "specific item" he wont be able to "add to card" any others item. By default only the "buy a membership" item can be added to shopping cart, others can be viewed but will get a custom error message if he try to add to the shopping cart. Anyway some arrangement can be made. I want someone to help me going trought the process of making my oscommerce working the way i want and as i said this is a business opportunity for anyone serious about it. wizardsandwars
In business, most of the time, the customer pay when the job is done. So a upfront fee is mostly used by scammer. This isn't the case with web development. typically, almost any developer will charge a percentage upfront. Typically 20%-50%. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help. dotc0m
Just to filter my 1st request and get it simple... the mechanic is like : there is only one "item" that can be buyed in the whole catalog...then once it is buyed, it grant access to "buying free" the others items. So a admin can "block" a member from being able to add new items to the shopping cart. So if he didnt buyed the "specific item" he wont be able to "add to cart" any others item. By default only the "buy a membership" item can be added to shopping cart, others can be viewed but will get a custom error message if the user try to add it to the shopping cart. And this controls sheme could be be done manually(i expect its easyer this way). As a exemple let say a user buyed the "main product" that need to be buyed using paypal/cc/etc... upon validation, the others products could now be added to the shopping cart. Then the processing for those "paid membership" item/product would be done manually(because no $ is involved). Then upon validation of the products/items a user want! The admin could block all the products(except the "buy a membership" products) until he decide to. then ship the products/item to the user. If you know i better place i could post those requests, or know people that could help, feel free to get it touch with me. I want someone to help me going trought the process of making my oscommerce working the way i want and as i said this could be a business opportunity for anyone serious about it.
