It has been a long time since i used OSC (must be 2 years now), and amazing not much has happened from what it seems. Anyway lack of updates aside I notice that the community has tried it's best to move the project forward.

There would appear to be 2 main system systems:

BTS (Basic Template System) and STS (Simple Template System) which seem to take a different approach.

Simple question which was is best??

I have tested STS, but it gives me errors on some servers I test it on, and not on others....i've not used BTS at all, but it don't seem as simple (or am I wrong), but I notice OSCMax and CReLoaded both appear to use it.

Me confused....help me guys! :'(

BTS is said to be best as it loads faster. Some say faster than pure MS2.2. With a lot of products STS can slow the site down.

BTS appeals to programmers as it is more code like. STS appeals to designers as it is more design like. STS seems to be quite restricted design wise unless you become an expert.

People on my team all argue for and against. We decide based on design and site size.

Hi Kym,

Thanks for your feedback. Do you know where I can find some do docs/help for BTS (Basic Template System)?

Just a side question, can BTS have a different template (main body) for categories?

I have shifted to creloaded which used BTS, and amazingly it save my almost 1 month as it comes with preinstalled contribs. and even designing is easier than even.

I strongly recommend BTS.

Martin - If you are dead set on using a template system, then the decision should be based on your level of experiece with changing code. STS requires almost none, while BTS can require quite a bit. The best choice, IMO, is to use neither. When the shop is completed, you will be much happier with the result and you won;t run into the compatibility or slow loading problems of the templates. But, again, if you are not comfortable with making changes and don't have the desire or time to learn, then STS is the only choice you have.

I don't think BTS supports multiple templates per category. Could be wrong there. Somebody correct me.

STS does though. Supposed to be stock in version 3.

If you use 2.01 here's how to do it and try not to use the STS product_info if you're going to be installing a bunch of contribs that modify its contents unless you're intent on writing a bunch of STS definitions.
