hi Conrad, my shop is at http://www.onlineshoppingcart.com.au and i am having the same problem 32 characters just doesnt cut it sometimes when i am creating new categories. 64 would be fine but i would like to ability to change as i need to . Did you ever find any answers on this?

in short...

How do I change the length of the category field?

do you mean you need to increase the width of the left hand column? You do that in includes/application top I think (I know not the exact name but you will find it)

I think what you're getting at is the database doesn't store the full category name. The length of this field is set in the database, you will need to change the length of the field using phpmyadmin!

Light, in the absence of eyes, illuminates nothing.

You'll find categories_name in the categories_description table, and it's 32 characters in length. You can reset this using phpMyAdmin, but personally I don't see the need for any Category name of anything approaching even 32 characters in length.
