Phrozt
My boss just dropped the bomb on me to figure out a working ecommerce solution. I've been looking at verisign, e-onlinedata, and a couple other things, but I have to admit.. I'm kind of lost as to what all to do. I talked to a friend who's done e-commerce stuff, and he said that I basically need to set up my shopping cart (oscommerce), set up the payment gateway (verisign) and then set evyerthing up through our company bank's processor. What I'd like to know is if there are better solutions out there that do this... like.. authorize.net or something. Basically, if someone wanted to toss me some info as to how to get e-commerce started up for a small company (less than 500 transactions a month) that would be great. If someone would just shoot me a URL to go read from, that would be equally as good... anything to help get me started. Any help is greatly appreciated. COOLumbia
I basically need to set up my shopping cart (oscommerce), set up the payment gateway If you don't mind using PayPal, you just have to install OSCommerce and load your product images and descriptions and let PayPal handle the money. PayPal support is already an integral part of OSCommerce.

PayPal support is already an integral part of OSCommerce. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You want to use a PAYPAL_IPN (Instant Payment Notification) contribution add on to the cart rather than the built in paypal thing. Paypal are one of the cheapest creditcard processors and easy to get going with though many considder them naff. Definitely a good way to get started though and once you know your shop isn't a flop you can look at something more fashonable. Light, in the absence of eyes, illuminates nothing. Phrozt
Does the user have to have a paypal account? Or is it just something that has to be set up on our end?
♥Vger
You need to set up a Pay Pal account for your company, with an e-mail address based on the domain you'll be using for the osCommerce website. Then go to Contributions, Payment Modues, Page 13, and download the osCommerce Pay Pal IPN module and add it to your osCommerce website (it's better than the default version). Phrozt
right, but I'm asking if a customer coming to the site to order something would need a paypal account to pay, or if it looks just like a transaction via Verisign or authorize.net. COOLumbia
right, but I'm asking if a customer coming to the site to order something would need a paypal account to pay No, the custome does NOT need a PayPal account. At checkout time, he just enters his credit card number, the money goes to your PayPal account (minus fees of about 30 cents per transaction and about 3 percent of total). To make it easier, you might want to try the integrated PayPal support module, see if you like it first. If not, you can install the contribution later. Standard support may be all you need. Haven't tried the contribution so I don't know what's better about it.
