neveremail Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 For someone new to Ecommerce but has a good/reasonable understanding of HTML and CSS how long would it take to install oscommerce?
neveremail Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 also is there anything in particular that i need?
Wendy James Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Installation takes however long it takes you to upload the files, change a couple of CHMOD permsissions, create the database (and get that activated some hosts take 15 minutes or so for that others less) then run the install. Not counting the uploading or making the database it takes like maybe 5 minutes? Something like that. It should be very simple. Wendy James Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. inkan Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Hi! From what I learnt, if Apache is used, and you are able to use .htaccess files and set the file and folder permissions yourself, there are not much that can go totally wrong. Run the installations pages, and test the default store before you move further, then you will get a good idea if things are working as you want them to. Go through the Admin module and look at the configureation options found there. You need to customize some text and company info before you are done. It is done partly through the Admin interface (stored in the database) and partly by editing texts in php-files (takes more time to find out where to edit what). Searching this forum is a great timesaver! The most time, I think, is needed to categorize and add products. As for payment methods, I have not come that far myself, but if "cash at delivery" is OK, you shouldn?t need any extra time for that. Last, you might want to hide/add some of the features available, such as newsletter etc. Add a couple of hours for that, some decisions has to be done. Good Luck!!! /Inkan in Sweden (was up and running in 20 minutes, then spent 2 days customizing and have lots left as I messed up somewhere on the way... )
