can't connect to my admin area

my shop is working fine but now i can't even log in to my own admin area, after having done it once after a successful install. i'm really not sure what's happening...here's the error message i get when trying to login to the admin:

Unable to connect to database server!

 

i double checked the server name, password, etc. and it's all correct
