product customization mod

hey everyone.

I am generally new to oscommerce, but i have been working with it for about a week straight trying to figure this out.. so i know my way around now.

here is what i'm trying to do:

i have a product that i want to let my customers customize. they will customize the writing on the product. i have done everything so this product has the option to be customized and the customer can enter whatever text they want to be customized on the product. when they have entered their 'custom' text they are shown an image preview of that the product will look like with the text that they have put in. no problem.

here is where i'm running into a problem:

once they have customized their product, that product needs to keep the customization id with that product throughout the shopping cart and check out process. i need this to be attached to the order somehow so i know what they put in and how the product should be customized.

i can't seem to figure this out.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

once i have figured out how to do this i will let anyone who wants to see the source code see it.

I guess I'm into a similar business. :)

 

I need a lot more flexible product attributes FORM, to allow customers to specify a set of options to the product before it gets into the shopping cart.

 

There are a couple of Contribs like Imprint Text (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2618/) that provide

somewhat similar functionaly.

 

It's a bit difficult to install, but might be usable for you.

 

Although I'd need a lot more of input fields (5-15 to each product) which just looks plain silly without any control on the appearance and sort order... (not even talking about the clumsy way to admin them)

 

Of course, any suggestions are welcome!
