wizardsandwars Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I wouldn't recommend that contribution. It's not nearly as helpful as the name sounds like it would be, and in fact, I think it makes things even worse. Here's a good recent article you might find interesting. http://wizardsandwars-oscommerce.blogspot....kouts-suck.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. I read all the contributions regarding 'checkout without account' and decided that a simple way, for me is always the easier answer, so I edited my sign up/in page so that when they click 'check out' it still takes them to the sign up/in page, there I simply added an extra continue button at the top of the form which on the face of it gives an option to go straight to checkout without creating an account but it still takes them to the create account page there's just a little explanation as to why they need to complete the form, I'm not in any search engines so am not receiving any traffic yet therefore my idea has really not been tested with live potential customers, but I feel that explaining will soften the blow and most people will fill in the form if they seriously want to shop. You can see it Here: My Website login.php my site is called http://siamsavers.com now I'm concentrating on optimising for the search engines. Up to you what you do! I just thought I would just share this with you and others. Kind Regards, Michelle
wizardsandwars Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Theres an easier way. Just skip over the 'sign up/login' page, and install the 'combined login/create account' contribution. Then rename the 'create account' text on the page to read 'Your Shipping Address', and skip over the 'create account success' page. Dont forget to disable the create account email confirmation. This eliminates 2 pages from the checkout, and removes the intimidating 'register to purchase' feel of the checkout, and in much less work than you'd need to install the PWA contribution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.
