OK,

You uploaded the files to a server right?

It's a Linux/Unix Server, right? If not chmod means nothing to you.

Your ftp program will have a tool somewhere which allows you to set file and folder permissions.

Which program are you using and what type of local machine?

Here's a site which helps explain chmod (numbers vs. permissions)

http://ninjasuit.com/scripts/script.php?script_id=63

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

Hello,

Read is 4

write is 2

execute is 1

so if you give read permission only then it is 4

now there are three groups whom the permission is given.

so a three digit number.

each stating what all permission on that file to a group
