Unable to access contributions

I am a newbie and having trouble accessing the contribution files. I have downloaded two of them, extracted with winzip but when I try to access the readme file, I get the following error. I am using Windows XP Professional

 

"windows cannot access .......you man not have appropriate permission"

 

What do I need to do to access the files?

Feel like a fool but have the problem solved. Turns out there was a virus which had eaten my notepad. Everything works fine now.
