stiksandstones
I have some products that have sold out and will no longer be ordered, they automagically show out of stock of course, but I want to delete them. If I delete them will my sales numbers remain unchanged and volumes sold stay same?

shaunklink
backup your database, then delete them. If it does, then load your old DB... I think this would work :).....don't quote me on that though ;P

dm18k
If your not getting these products again. Why not just delete the single product? Our just shut the product off? Removing a product that your not going to be selling and worried about ruining stats? Maybe Im not understanding what you mean by ruining stats. It will just remove the single product and remove the single product stats, not the rest of your products stats. B)

B) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm, ok I have BOBS 05' BLUE WIDGETS, I have sold them out, the red dot is now showing it is out of stock-which is great. But BOB doesnt make the BOBS 05' BLUE WIDGETS anymore, my next shipment will be BOBS AQUA 06' WIDGETS. So I have ALL these items that are sold out and never coming again, I want to delete them NOT JUST have them turned off. If I do delete them, will the deletion skew my sales numbers, my items sold, etc??? Like, lets say I sold $10,000 last month in BOBS BLUE WIDGETS, if I delete that product cause its sold and never coming again, will my sales numbers change? will it still show those widgets being sold? hope that is a little clearer. dm18k
I got it!! This is what you can do and what I do. Keep the Old name Bob's 05 and replace the information with Bob's 06, and just explain it is a product upgrade. What you are trying to do is fade Bob's 05 and letting Bob's 06 replace the product and keep the product statis. (Keep Bob's 05 name up for a week or so slowly add Bob's 05 Upgrade to Bob's 06) Each product has a unique file path/number (/Catalog/product_info.php?products_id=377) This product id number is important for alot of things. Number of product views, Product Sales and also search engines use it. Just modifying the products information and name will let you keep this products path/number. Meaning you still keep your statis. Number of sales, Number views and also keeps your file path/number with search engines. If this is a new product.. you do not what to do this. Why? You will not be able to see how many people viewed this product You will not be able to see how many sales You search engines will not be updated untill the next spider pass (Google reads Joe's 08, Your Page Reads Tom's 07 confusing your customer thinking there are going to Joe's 08) This is just my way of doing things, I hope you can understand what I am trying to say. ;) Hope this helps!
