More advice needed for newbie

Ok I had a go at attempting to set up a shop a couple of months back but what with a busy summer it has been sidetracked.

However I am back and willing to try again and hopefully learn some php in the process.

The main aim is to get the shop to fit into the website design (and get it up and running of course)

It currently looks like this http://www.maestro.org.uk/shop but it needs to look something like this http://www.maestro.org.uk/clubshop (with the categories replacing the current menu bar)

How easy is this for a newbie on a scale of 1-10?

Also as you can see I have used the simple template system with the websites original style sheet however some bits don't look quite right.

I am going to start with the box and the words.

I want to move the Go>> logo to sit on the right hand side of the search box how do I do this? Also where do I edit the text and into a small text size?

So I can get it looking something like http://www.maestro.org.uk/temp/button2.jpg

Then moving on how do I edit the text down the righthand side to be smaller and in the right font and also get the logo buttons back?

Would appreciate any help I can get please.

Hey,

Are you using some sort of HTML editing program like Front Page(not recommended), or DreamWeaver?

Are you also running a local web server on you computer?

Macromedia DreamWeaver has an option to edit the site live and see the site in actual format as you work on. It shows both the Code and PHP format.

I'm actually doing something similar to what you are doing. I have created a real nice template and trying to use it with the OsCommerce shopping cart. I just got my OsCommerce site working on my local PC. So, It should be much more simple working on the site visually and not just the code.

Not sure if all that help!

Thanks.

Erick.

Just using a program called HTML-Kit at present, is this not what I should be using? Just to add my HTML is limited if I am trying to work from scratch (I didn't write the website concerned but I do some maintenance on it) however I am able to look at other peoples code and adapt for my needs :-"

I have got Apache and MySql installed on my desktop but if I am being perfectly honest I haven't the foggiest what I am doing with it, I just installed someones package that had put all the useful bits in.

Is it easy to make OScommerce install locally, I did look at the instructions a while ago but it seemed far more complex than the walkthrough guide for online installation.

The trouble I forsee is I really don't have the foggiest what I am doing (no php knowledge, limited html) and wnat I want the shop to look like is far from stock.
