Limit One to a Customer

Hello. I'm setting up a cart for someone who sells certificates and each certificate is limited to one per customer. Is there a way to limit the buyer from ordering more than a quantity of one for each item? I thought this might be the answer...

I tried to do what it said and the new block of code I was supposed to input was already there.

You mean you want to only sell 1 of the item, ever (like if the items are unique and you only have1) ? Or one per customer?

If you want to sell an item only 1 time, just set the quantity to 1 and go to admin->configuration->stock -> change allow checkout to false.

It seems like you want to sell only 1 per customer, but this is just about impossible? I mean what is to stop them from just creating another account and purchasing it again? Even if you setup a script to only allow 1 item per credit card, they could just use a different card (most people have more than 1)

If you set it up for only 1 item per address they could just enter their address slightly differently and get thru the system?

19 Fox Run Rd. and 19a Fox Run Rd. (will still go to my house).

I dont even understand why you want to do this? Are the items in limited supply and you want to "share the joy" to as many people as possible? If not then surely the more people buy the better?

What it is is they are certificates to local resturaunts that are offered thru a local tv show at a discounted price. So you could buy one thru the show for a restaurant and eat there at about half off (you pay $10 for a cert. present it at the restaurant and eat $20 worth of food.). So they are limited to one certificate per household per week. Baisically they are promotion for the restaurants similar to coupons for a grocery store. I understand what you mean about the credit cards and duped accounts. But If I can limit it by account or card (or both) that may do the trick. I would at least have some options to offer to the person I'm putting this together for. Unless there is someother way to do it.

Can I make it so their accounts address has to match the address on the credit card? So that way they couldn't make a dupe account with an address with a slight variation.
