cant upload images

I have installed osc from my control panel on the host, when I try to upload images i get this error

 

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /home/virtual/site207/fst/var/www/html/oscommerce/images/

 

I have not uploaded the files myself as it is a self install so any ideas on how I can change it to be able to upoad images and is it something i have done since installation which had caused this.

I did not upload the folder it wasa self install via my hosts control panel.

ok have sorted it, I just worked out that with the ftp software if I rightr click on the folder and choose properties i was able to change to chmod777 and now all uploads fine.
