Product added on "date"

I am transferring an existing store to osCommerce. As near as I can tell, when I add a product, the "This product was added to our catalog on ..." is completed with the date at the time the product listing is created. That's fine for new products I add in the future, but some of the products I'm transferring have been in my old online catalog for years. Is there any way to specify the date that appears? I have all the dates in a products database I keep on my local computer (an MS Works database). If I can't figure out a way to specify the dates myself, I'm inclined to remove the "This product was added ..." entirely, and I've seen instructions on how to do that. I'd rather there be no date than have several thousand products that appear to have been added to the catalog at about the same time, even though many have been in the catalog (my old catalog; not the osCommerce catalog) for quite some time. Does anyone have a solution? Many thanks!

I would just delete the date which I think can be found in catalog/includes/footer.php.
