Editing Page Texts results in blank site

Hello can anyone please help? I'm having a major problem when i try to edit the texts pages ( Languages->English->Define ...) whenever I try to change the default text I completely loose the site, I do not receive an error message as the whole site is completely blank. I have set the correct permission for the various folders. I have even reinstalled several times with exactly the same results.

I have not tried to alter the code in any way just simply to replace the wording, but still I loose the site. I've been having this problem for a week! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
