Waffa
I found sooo many really cool plug-ins, hacks, modules etc from this site. But after i found 30+ things i started to think that - what if these plug-ins are not so good for performance ? What if these plug-ins hack some part of OSc so much that later would be hard to add other plug-ins or do updates? I am not so good in PHP, HTML etc. For example if plug-in A requires certain changes in osC file.php then i should be alarmed because... etc I know latest x-cart upgrade was so terrible slow, that community started to post what you should disable & add to get xcart run - not fast, but @ least less slow lol. Like disable statistic B & change this menu ... etc. Or is osC so mighty & plug-ins well built that it does not really make so much difference? Store would be big, but it's targeted to certain islands in pacific, so i would maybe have max couple of hundred visitors a day. Thank You! JEWbacca
Waffa, There has been a TON of posts about contributions slowing down the stock osC and the truth to the matter is that anything that adds database queries to the your site will slow it down... I would suggest doing a search for just the word speed, there will be more than you ever want to read about what slows down osC and what can be done about it... A good post to start with is this one -- http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144736
Jack_mcs
Ones that require a lot of database reads are probably the worse. Although there's one that shows Who's Online in the shop that will really slow things down. STS also slows down the shop too. Some of that can be offset if you add an image thumbnailer and use the cache option in admin. There are also changes that will increase page loads. You need to search for these but they are out there.
